Our History

Originally established as a plant hire company in 1972 by Peter Smith, Power Tools and Equipment (PTE) has built a renowned reputation for its portfolio of tools and machinery for the gardening, landscape, construction and forestry trades. The range has since further increased to offer equipment suitable for homeowners and hobbyists as well as professionals. From their base in Doncaster, South Yorkshire – the specialists offer sales through a dedicated and knowledgeable sales team, service and maintenance packages upheld by their skilled and long standing mechanics and also offer product hire services across a diverse selection of some of the best machinery the industry has to offer.

Future Progression

Over the years PTE has seen a number of exciting business developments. The company welcomed new owners AWS Landscapes Ltd, a commercial landscaping company, in March 2013 after the retirement of Peter Smith. Since taking over the managing of PTE, AWS have:

  • Increased the product portfolio
  • Offer a ‘fix while you wait’ repair service on items such as chainsaw sharpening and recoil starter repairs.
  • Introduced a new website to enable online purchasing to be quick and easy along with the option to book servicing and hires online.
  • Host open days for customers to visit the store, see the products in action and take advantage of extra special offers – Watch out for dates and times
In 2019 the opportunity arose to take on the customers and stock from a company called ADH Baseline whose owner David Himsworth had taken the decision to retire. This acquisition led to the introduction of specialised products for people involved with Chemical Handling, key items being products from the Chem-Lock and Base-Tech ranges. PTE also welcomed a new member to the team Richard Himsworth who had previously been an important member of the sales team at ADH Baseline. This has allowed PTE to continue to offer the highest level of customer service backed up by experienced and knowledgeable staff.
